Spring vacation went by and I didn’t really make anything. I started a cool track that had an Autechre feel but I don’t know if I’ll follow through with it. Now that classes are starting back up I should be in a more productive mood :D

Hi there Monowolfe. I've had One for quite some time now. I must congratulate you on that album. It is incredibly soothing and enjoyable. A Forest of Chairs is probably my favorite on that album. It's a fusion of cool, slow, soothing sounds with a high energy drum beat. Opposites, yet they are attractive. I like it. Encouragement to continue! Also, do you have any specific influences, such as other artists?

I glad you enjoy One, it’s weird to think it’s already almost been a year since I put that out. Thanks for the kind words. :)

I have many influences, a few of which you can usually hear direct stylistic touches on my music that I ~~stole~~ took inspiration from.

Here’s a rudimentary list of a few of my favorites: Kettel, Wisp, Flashbulb, All of Richard D Jame’s stuff, Monolith, DMX Krew, Squarepusher, Thrice, Ceephax.

Here’s a track that I just made within the last couple of days. This guy is special for a few reasons.

Firstly, I learned that you can freeze a track and extract the waveform from midi information. This made chopping up that synth bass WAY easier than it ever was before (I was rerouting the audio to a different track and recording it, it was a pain in the ass).

Also, this is the only track I’ve ever made purely in Ableton’s arrangement view. I’ve found that session view tends to make me create repetitive “loopy” songs, so I just tried to make it like anyone else in other DAW’s would make a track.

Also, it’s a bit of a frankenstein track in that it was something completely different in the first place… and I ended up gutting it and moving everything around.

Because of this, it doesn’t really go anywhere… it just “goes”.

Also I tried to master it and failed and probably ruined it oh god.

On the plus side, no one reads these posts. So ignorance is bliss I suppose.

I’ve made pretty sweet progress regarding my understanding of mastering and compressors through-out the past couple of days.

It’s pretty sweet, I almost feel like I know what I’m doing.

On the flip side, I was referencing my tracks with this one

And it made me sad that I’ll never be that good regardless of how much compression I think I understand. :’(

Hey, I just found you on soundcloud, I think your sound is amazing. I'm doing a course at the moment to learn more about production and sound engineering. I'm very curious about what equipment you use? Especially which synthesizers you use? As I recently ordered a Xoxbox and am also looking into some other synths. Anyhow, thanks for sharing you stuff!

I use Ableton and soft synths for everything.

The hands down best synths I’ve ever come across are U-he’s (zebra, ACE, etc).

Analog/hardware is sweet… but it’s expensive.

I’m happy to hear you enjoy my music :) it’s humbling when people actually take the time to tell me they like it.

I had a jam I was playing around with for a day or two and tonight all the pieces fell together.

It’s very rare when that happens for me…

I put the track I just released up on reddit hoping to get some feedback and got 1 hit haha. I should really start marketing myself a bit more, I just feel like such a tool doing it.

Also, completely unrelated…

I received a monotribe for christmas.

It was pretty much the coolest present I’ve ever received. ever.

Heres a new track that I had been working on.

All of my old stuff got deleted, so I had to start fresh. It was actually pretty nice.

This track has heavy Kettel influences because he’s what I’ve been listening to nonstop for awhile now.

So I just went to Game Stop and traded in some games. I got a whopping $102 in store credit lol. I ended up grabbing the new Dues Ex game. Seemed like a pretty sweet game and it got really good reviews. The game starts out awesome and the story smells like a cross between Robocop and Halflife. I never played any of the other Dues Ex games but this one looks like it will keep me occupied until this fall’s crazy lineup lol.

So I’m actually putting out 2 new songs this time, instead of just that one.

This one is a bit different than anything I usually do for a few reasons.

Firstly, it’s one of the only songs i’ve ever made that uses compressors. Every song on EP One was compressor-less, I figured I should start using them because they are probably helpful.

Also, it’s a completely different style of music than I usually make.

Also, I really like the picture I used for it. I might consider using it for my next release’s cover.
